He served three terms on the Galveston City Council and one term on the Galveston Wharves Board. He received the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the Galveston Historical Foundation. With the Foundation he currently serves as Chairperson of their Real Estate Committee rehabilitating and reselling distressed historical properties. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the Foundation. He has restored older homes and a corner store. Two homes have been on the GHF Annual Homes Tour and the store was featured in an exhibit in the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. He has been President of the Silk Stocking Historic District Association, an older Neighborhood in Galveston, which is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
